When folks ask “Where is your family from originally Eric?”, I always wish we had a simpler answer. I just list the shtetls, towns & cities. If pushed, I often say “Ukraine-Russia-Poland-Latvia-Belorussia-Azerbaijan-Moldova-Romania-Ish” But the “ish” does a lot of heavy lifting.
