@OnCroft The dog's name was Nigger. This was a common name for black dogs and shades of brown paint- 70 years ago. My great grandparents' dog shared the name. It is now a hugely offensive word. I'm not sad that it's gone from the monument, it was an embarrassment and shamed us.
