David Lynch's films are cinematic poetry. They follow the logic of mood, metaphor, and association. Few scenes illustrate this better than the introduction to Blue Velvet, which evokes the wistful nostalgia of the small town while hinting at something sinister beneath.

Just as Hollywood keeps pumping out repetitious clones of clones, Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, so our political discourse, in 2022, is still about fascism versus communism, Hitler, Staling, Hitler, Stalin. So many ideas, so little novelty. This is decadence.

Karate Kid is a film about toxic and healthy masculinity. Cobra Kai represents toxic, aggressive masculinity. And Mr. Miyagi represents tough, disciplined, healthy masculinity. The hero's journey in the film is from adolescence to manhood.

@a_centrism @BenWinegard Perhaps I should have been slightly more cautious, but I think the literature is pretty strong for the claim, and in 2012, even Nisbett et al. conceded it in adults, but made the claim that at birth, brain size is the same (a disputed claim).
